Education, training and technical assistance for resident-owned communities
Managing a resident-owned community is a big job. Think of the ROC-NH™ team as a resource when questions and challenges arise. Yes, and celebrations too!
ROC-NH staff provides ongoing support and guidance to co-op members and board members in a variety of ways, including informal phone or email conversations, attending meetings and presenting workshops, to name a few.
Each cooperative is assigned a team member as a primary point of contact. The co-op’s primary contact person can provide technical assistance on all areas of co-op management and living, including:
- financial analysis and monitoring
- members’ and board members’ roles and responsibilities
- problem solving
- parliamentary procedure
- new-member screening
- working with outside vendors
- developing policies and procedures
- forming and using committees
- capital improvement and funding plan
- effective communications
- legal and loan compliance
- bylaws and community rules development
- member participation
- filling vacant lots
- referrals to outside resources
ROC-NH also provides more-structured opportunities for education and technical assistance:
ROC-NH Community Leadership training: Community Leadership fosters peer-to-peer learning and relationships. The goal is to develop a cadre of knowledgeable, effective leaders to strengthen resident-owned communities in New Hampshire and elsewhere.
I’d give this course a gold medal. Since taking the course last year our co-op has beenable to successfully work with our town government in getting a property tax credit, building permits to fill vacant lots, and stabilize water and sewer billing rates."
